Pain’s not remembered / or women would stop bearing / children, wouldn’t they?

Twoku:
Forgetting / pain, allows mothers / to bear more.

Disclaimer:
I’ve read more than once that the human body cannot remember “pain”. With that in mind, I wrote these two ‘kus from my naive perception (as a man) that a woman must indeed be able to forget pain, in order to bear more than one child!  I closely observed and participated (yeah, cut the cord, etc.) in my son’s birth as much as a man can, but I really have no idea what the pain of childbirth is like…  🙂

P.S. this image is of my sister, and brother-in-law, who (today) have three lovely children…

P.P.S. I have two lovely children – one by birth, and one by adoption…

“Haikumages” are short poems (mostly haiku and senryu-style) combined with images (mostly original photographs and graphics) by Russ Murray.

  1. What I like about your haiku poems is that they make me think about things I never had thought about before. It is true. The minute after both my daughters were born, the joy of the moment melted the pain into oblivion. I had never heard that the human body cannot remember “pain”. I am thinking about other pain I have had, like tooth pain, and you are right, I actually cannot conjure up the pain of it.

Thanks!! That is my goal…or my affliction in writing these ‘kus and ‘rus… I am so glad you get something from them!
